ABSTRACT

The study of arterial patterns of vascular distribution requires a precise knowledge of the anatomical variations of both origin and distribution of the corresponding arteries and arterial branches. In this work, the presence of a hepatosplenic-mesenteric trunk is described, a highly infrequent arterial disposition. The knowledge of the different possibilities of disposition of the arteries corresponding to the celiac trunk and its branches will be of importance for the adequate interpretation of imaging studies, as well as for the precise planning of surgical and interventional acts in the abdominal region.

ABSTRACT

Knowledge of the hepatic arterial anatomy and celiac trunk is gaining importance, since the use of minimally invasive surgeries is more frequent nowadays. This kind of procedure meant that surgeons had less room for visualization of anatomical variants and work. In addition, failure to recognize the correct anatomy of the hepatic vascularization in a transplant procedure can lead to organ failure and death. The present case aims to demonstrate an arterial hepatic celiac trunk pattern that was never described by any of the acknowledged classification systems. This pattern is challenging for the surgical management of possible upper abdominal interventions, since non-recognition may lead to iatrogenesis. (AU)

ABSTRACT

The mesenteric arteries of birds are important for the irrigation of the digestive tract and are associated with weight gain and food conversion. This study aimed to describe the origins, skeletopy, measures and main branches of cranial and caudal mesenteric arteries in ostriches. Forty-one cadavers of ostrich chicks, 23 males and 18 females, obtained from a farmer after natural death. The cadavers were fixed with 10% formaldehyde solution and their vascular system was filled with colored Petrolatex® S-65. The cranial and caudal mesenteric arteries and its proximal branches were dissected in situ and measured with a digital caliper. The mesenteric artery had an average length of 3.68cm±1.04 and emerged from the descending aorta at the level of the eighth thoracic vertebra in most cases; it branched into jejunal and ileocecal arteries. The jejunal artery sent a mean of 14 (14.04±2.08) branches to the jejunum. The ileocecal artery sent a rectal branch and another branch that irrigated ileum, cecum and rectum. In a male specimen the ileocecal artery was originated from the celiac artery. The caudal mesenteric artery emerged in the terminal portion of the descending aorta predominantly at the level of the 4th and 6th sacrocaudal vertebrae. Near the caudal end of the kidney it issued the cranial and caudal branches. The first irrigated the rectum and anastomosed with the rectal branch of the cranial mesenteric artery; the second irrigated the final part of the rectum, cloaca and cloacal bursa. There was no significant difference (p<0.05) between measurements, skeletopy and number of branches of the arteries between genders.(AU)

ABSTRACT

Variations in the branches of the abdominal aorta were determined during a routine abdominal region dissection of a 70-year-old male cadaver. Left gastric artery arose as the first root from antero-lateral of aorta. Coeliacomesenteric trunk occurred as a thick root. After 29.9mm, coeliacomesenteric trunk bifurcated as coeliac trunk and superior mesenteric artery. Coeliac trunk bifurcated as splenic artery and common hepatic artery. These multiple variations which change the normal anatomic structure of the abdominal aorta have to be kept in mind by surgeons, radiologists and anatomists.

ABSTRACT

At present many surgical invasive, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures require a precise knowledge of the arterial anatomy of the abdominal territory. Among these interventions the extraction of organs stands out in alive donors (renal and hepatic) and the oncological interventions, among others. Traditionally, the study of the vascularization has been carried out by means of arteriographies which require invasive procedures with injection of contrast substances and long expossue to X-rays, obtaining two-dimensional images in which the relations between the tissues and organs is difficult to analyze. The aim of the present work was to determine the anatomical characteristics of the celiac trunk, superior mesenteric, renal and inferior mesenteric arteries and the relation of origin with the vertebral column. Images of 74 patients, 40 men and 34 women, submitted to an tomography of the abdominal part of the aorta, were studied as were the characteristics and the relations of the mentioned arteries. Images used were obtained by means of multidetector computed tomography. The classic division of the celiac trunk in three branches was observed in 60,8 percent of the cases, the origin related with T12 in 50 percent of the men and in 52,9 percent of the women, with L1 in 50 percent and 47,1 percent, respectively. The superior mesenteric artery originated to level of T12, L1 and L2 in 8,1 percent, 78,4 percent and 13,5 percent, respectively. The renal arteries were double in 18,9 percent of the cases. With regard to the classic descriptions we found differences that demonstrate the variability of the vascular distribution. The method is validated as a useful instance of low risk for the patient and reproducible for the researchers and clinical.

ABSTRACT

The knowledge of the arterial variations is very important for the diagnosis and the surgical procedures. The purpose of this study was determine the number and the origin levels of the renal and superior mesenteric arteries in relation to the vertebral bodies. For this, we used the angiographies of 31 patients, Chileans, adult, of both sexes. The angiographies were obtained by Helicoidal Computed Tomography, in these we localized the origin points of the mentioned arteries. We divided the vertebral bodies in three parts, superior, middle and inferior, considering too the intervertebral disc. In 26 patients, in both sides the renal artery was only; in the right side it was double in 2 patients and in the left side in 3. The right renal artery originated from the level of L1 vertebra in 11 cases; from the level of L1-L2 intervertebral disc in 7; from the level of the L2 vertebra in 10 and from the level of the L2-L3 intervertebral disc in 2. The left renal artery originated from the level of the L1 vertebra in 9 cases; from the level of the L1-L2 intervertebral disc in 6; from the level of the L2 vertebra in 12 and from the level of the L2-L3 intervertebral disc in 2. The superior mesenteric artery was only in all cases; it origin level was always cranial to the renal arteries origin. The origin level of the superior mesenteric artery was observed in relation to the L1 vertebra in 16 cases and to the level of the L2 vertebra in 8. We considered specifical origin levels associated to the vertebral body division. The results of this study will complete the knowledge of these arteries and are a contribution to the surgical anatomy of abdominal region.

ABSTRACT

The objective of this study is to describe the cranial and caudal mesenteric arteries in 10 opossuns after Neoprene latex injection. The cranial mesenteric artery arises from the abdominal aorta, caudally to the celiac trunk, originating the caudal duodenal pancreatic artery, middle and right colic, jejunal and ileocecocolic arteries. The caudal mesenteric artery arises from the aorta, cranially to the external iliac arteries, originating the cranial rectal and left colic arteries.

ABSTRACT

A artéria mesentérica cranial supriu a maior parte do intestino delgado e cecos e, a artéria mesentérica caudal irrigou o reto e a cloaca, e em alguns casos a porção final do íleo, cecos e bolsa cloacal.

The cranial and caudal mesenteric arteries are important vessels wich responds for the main irrigation of the digestive apparatus in fowls. 30 fowls Gallus gallus lineage Redbro Plumé, ranging 7-8 weeks of age, were used. Their vascular apparatus were stained with a 50% aqueous solution of Neoprene Latex “450”, through the right ischiatic artery, and the fowls were fixed during 48h in a 10% formaline solution. Our results showed that the cranial mesenteric artery emits one ileoceal artery, containing 3 to 9 branches, 14 to 21 jejunal arteries and 11 to 22 ileal arteries. About the caudal mesenteric artery, we observed one cranial branch, containing 3-9 branches and one caudal branch, containing 1-3 branches. We also observed that the cranial branch of the caudal mesenteric artery could be in anastomosis with the ileocecal artery. In resume, in this work we showed that the cranial mesenteric artery irrigates the largest part of the small intestine and of the cecum, and the caudal mesenteric artery irrigates the rectum and the cloaca, and sometimes the final portion of the ileum, the cecum and the cloacal sac, as well.

ABSTRACT

The knowledge of the normal Doppler signs of each blood vessel is important in their identification. There are few reports in veterinary literature that describe the normal aspect of abdominal blood vessels in dogs. The aim of this paper was verify technical viability of US Doppler use to assessment of the abdominal aorta and cranial mesenteric arteries; twenty clinically normal unsedated dogs were examinated. It was described and assessed characteristic duplex color Doppler spectrum of each blood vessel and the results were compared with that found in literature. Although some technical limitations were found, US Doppler could be successfully used as a noninvasive method to detect mesenteric blood flow changes in dogs without chemical contention.

ABSTRACT

The origins, ramifications and distributions of the cranial and caudal mesenteric arteries were studied in 30 male fowls (Gallus gallus) from Cobb 500 lineage, between 5 and 6 weeks old. The arterial vases of the specimens were filled with colored water-based solution of Neoprene Latex “450” at 50 concentration after wards they were fixed in a water-based solution of formaldehyde at 10 concentration. The cranial mesenteric artery emerged from the right lateral surface of the descending aorta caudally the coeliac artery and through the ileocecal, jejunal and ileal arteries distributing itself by the jejunum, ileum, cecum and rectum to end next to the vitelline diverticulum. The caudal mesenteric artery originated from the ventral surface of the descending aorta and soon divided into cranial and caudal branches, distributed by the rectum, cloaca and cloacal bursa. There were anastomoses among branches of the cranial mesenteric artery and also among branches of the cranial mesenteric artery and branches of the caudal mesenteric and coeliac arteries.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT
